MSMEE-Chapter 22

 Chapter 22: Citywide Investigation

Next morning, when Wang Zijia went to work, he noticed that the group of colleagues who had been reassigned had returned.

And early in the morning, they were summoned to the sixth floor.

This was the first time Wang Zijia, including his predecessor, had been to the second floor or above of the Wan Yu Sect in the six months he had been working there, which made him very curious.

Unfortunately, on the sixth floor, he didn't see anything. There was only a gathering of about a hundred people, all looking like the miscellaneous workers from the first floor.

The crowd stood in the hall on the sixth floor, and there were some faint flashes of light under their feet, causing some commotion among the crowd.

"Don't be nervous, this is to check if you are contaminated." At this point, the unnamed steward who was in charge of the array spoke up to reassure the crowd.

After the inspection, everyone was called downstairs, coming and going in a hurry, without seeing anything.

Back on the first floor, the heads of various departments gathered their people together again, talked about some work-related matters, and then emphasized the need to be vigilant during this period. If they noticed anything suspicious about the people around them, they were to report it immediately.

Any clues could also be reported.

Among the crowd, Wang Zijia listened to the words of Xiang Ji, his eyes flickering for a moment, and finally made up his mind.

With a slight fluctuation of his true qi, his face flushed red, he lowered his head, raised his hand, and stammered, "M-m-m-manager!"

"Hmm?" Xiang Ji, who was giving the final instructions, looked at Wang Zijia in the crowd. Among the nearly twenty people in the talisman area, he was the only minor.

"Do you have something to say?" Xiang Ji asked in confusion.

The crowd also looked at him in unison.

"The d-d-dogs… something's wrong with the d-d-dogs!" Wang Zijia, being stared at by everyone, lowered his head, his face flushed.

"The dogs?" Everyone was taken aback, and Xiang Ji furrowed his brows, asking, "What's wrong with the dogs?"

"The other day when I went to work, I encountered a demon being subdued by a law enforcement senior." Wang Zijia took a deep breath, trying to sound calm.

The miscellaneous workers were immediately interested when they heard this.

"At that time, during the battle, I found that there were dogs barking madly from two blocks away from this direction, which was how I discovered the battle." Wang Zijia explained.

"Hmm? Are you saying that a dog sensed the battle even before you, a innate martial artist, or even before the demon was discovered?" Xiang Ji's eyes flashed as he asked.

"Yes. At that time, Senior Mengbei from the law enforcement team also noticed it!" Wang Zijia added.

Xiang Ji furrowed his brows when he heard this and asked, "Are you sure the law enforcement team also noticed it? Then why didn't we receive any notification during the pursuit of the criminal yesterday?"

"They should have noticed it. Anyway, I met Senior during that time!" Wang Zijia replied.

Xiang Ji was puzzled for a moment, passing over Wang Zijia's words in his mind before understanding what Wang Zijia was trying to express. Then he looked at the child in front of him with surprise.

This child didn't seem ignorant; he just had a somewhat introverted personality, but he wasn't foolish!

"I understand now!" Xiang Ji nodded, then said, "I take back what I said earlier. Your father taught you well!"

With that, he looked at the various expressions of the crowd and said, "Alright, let's end it here for today. Go back to work!"

Upon hearing this, everyone dispersed.

"Wang Zijia, consider my proposal carefully" Xiang Ji said to Wang Zijia, who was about to leave, before turning around and leaving.

Even though the crowd had already dispersed, they all looked at Wang Zijia with strange expressions, some even wanting to tease him. After all, there were no secrets among the first floor miscellaneous workers, let alone in their talisman area.

Everyone knew everything.

Wang Zijia's face was almost flushed with blood, and he hurriedly left the hall, returning to the warehouse.

When he reached his resting area, he breathed a sigh of relief. It was quite stressful to act so immature in front of so many people.

Hope it's worth it!

Another day of slacking off at work passed. On his way home in the afternoon, Wang Zijia noticed that the city guards were going door to door looking for dogs.

However, Wan Yu City was a cultivation city, and life was already difficult for ordinary people. There were even fewer people keeping dogs without the need to guard homes and yards, so the search seemed to be not very effective for most of the day!

Wang Zijia didn't pay attention to this and went home with all the money he had, along with the seventy pieces of spiritual materials he had received from the warehouse, to start processing them.

He hadn't finished processing all the materials even after Wang dan had prepared dinner.

After dinner, he spent a while longer processing the materials before finally finishing. Then he adjusted his state and started making talisman cards.

With the effects of last night's cultivation enhancement, he could make more than ten cards at a time before exhausting himself. But the recovery time was also much longer, overall efficiency had improved.

Until midnight, Wang Zijia had only consumed about forty to fifty pieces of materials, with a success rate slightly exceeding eighty percent.

Feeling that it was already midnight, Wang Zijia didn't continue making talismans, but stored the talisman cards and remaining materials in the secret room, changed into a new outfit, and went out again.

"Woof woof!"

"Whimper whimper!"

Tonight was somewhat strange, with occasional bursts of barking throughout Wan Yu City. There were barks of madness and whimpers of fear, making it seem quite lively.

Wang Zijia transformed into a shadow once again, roaming the city.

But tonight, he changed his direction. He had focused on the western part of the city for the past two days, just like the members of the law enforcement team, as the source of contamination was there.

However, Wang Zijia felt that the western part of the city was too chaotic tonight, and after two consecutive days of searching, most of the remaining entities were lurking and required special means to flush out.

So he simply came to the eastern part of the city, where there were fewer problems, to start his search. After all, since the goal was to uncover hidden individuals, it was better to patrol the less crowded eastern part of the city.

Transforming into a shadow, Wang Zijia swiftly traversed the city. After leaving the western district, patrols noticeably decreased.

Even because of the focus of personnel, most of them rushed to the western district, making patrols in the eastern district even more relaxed than usual.

This made Wang Zijia's stealth much easier.

But after searching for half a night, he found nothing. He didn't encounter any battles or encounter any contaminators that made his qi fluctuate.

"Weird, with so many people watching the show that day, although the eastern district is a bit far away, it's impossible for no one to go there. Could it be that there's not a single contaminated person in the eastern district?"

"Does contamination spread differently by region?"

"Or maybe this area has already been thoroughly investigated in the past two days?"

With these thoughts in mind, Wang Zijia continued his search. After wandering around the eastern district for almost half an hour, he suddenly stopped.

A strange sense of irritability emerged in his heart, making him unconsciously want to leave this area. At the same time, his innate true qi, which had experienced contamination and purification multiple times, became active again, bringing a familiar sense of pleasure.

Two conflicting emotions surfaced simultaneously, causing Wang Zijia's eyes to flicker.

Following the feeling of contradiction, Wang Zijia silently sneaked towards it.
